“Giovanni d’Aragona fu creato Capitano di Malta a’ beneplacito del Re l’anno 1371. Donna Margherita, e Donna Sibilla habbiamo altresi ambidue di questa regia Casa in Malta, che vissero nel 1370 per avventura figliuole del nostro Conte Guglielmo d’Aragona, figlioul naturale del Re Federico Terzo, o pure com’ e’ piu’ verisimile doscendenti da i figliuoli illegitimamente nati del Re’ Federico Secondo di Sicilia, il quale prima ch’havesse la Regina Elisabetta, si congiunse con un nobilissima Signora chiamta Sibillla, da cui hebbe una figlioula, e doppo il di lui matrimonio diverse maschi da altre femmine; onde percio’ si puo’ congetturare, che rimanesse l’istesso nome ad una delle sopradette. Pero’ di certo possiamo affermare che siano originate da’ Sangue reale, eccone la prova chiaramente. “Donna Margherita fu’ moglie di Giacomo Pellegrino di Malta, fondatrice del nostro Convento del Carmine, e signora molto ricca di beni stabili in quest’ isole, havendosi particolarmente posseduto i territorij de’ Marnisi, Baharia, Deyrlimara, il giardino, e terre delle due fontane, & altri, in modo, che per l’affluenza e dovizia delle se riccheze, era da’ Paesani cognominata la Fata, non lascio’ figliuoli maschi, ma solamente femmine cioe’ Leonora moglie di Matteo del Caretto, Cesarea d’un gentil huomo di casa Xabica, e Francia di Ludovico de Pluzasc nel primo matrimonio, e nel secondo di Simone d Mazara tutte famiglie nobilissime. Nel 1373, sotto gl’ 11 di Ottob. Ella ottiene dal Re’ Federico certa gratia per Giacomo suo marito, nella regia provisione cosi’ viene qualificata: Fridericus, & c praesentis scripti serie notu fieri volumes universes, quod ad humilem supplicationem noviter Excellentia nostra factam per nobilem Margaritan de Aragonia consortem Iacobi de Peregrino Melitis consanguineam familiarem, & fidelem nostra eidem nobili concedimus gratiose, &c. Mori’ questa in Malta nel 1418, doppo haver fatto il suo testamento a’ 5 di Giugno di quell’ anno ne gl’ ati dei Notar Antonio Azzoppard, quale si conserva per trasunto autentico a le scritture di detto Convento, di donde habbiamo cavato di lei le predette notitie. Donan Sibilla poi non men generosa di nascita, & illustre per pieta’ di quello si fusse stata la sopraccenata Margherita, fondo’ nel Gozo la Chiesa, co’ l beneficio di S. Maria della Saccaia, che fu’ di Giuspadronato regio, hoggi del Sig. Gran Maestro Principe di questo dominio; fu’ nell’ anno 1372 concesso dal Re’ Federico doppo la dlei morte; e s’appalesa, che ne sia stata essa la fondatrice, per una provisione del Re’ Martino data a’ 15 du Ottobre 1398, ove espressamente si dice, ch’ havendolo ella fondato, e dotato, morta poi senza legitimo erede, le era succeduta la regia Corte, e suo real padronato, dal qual successione, e dal cognome insieme, si puo’ facilmente argomentare, e dedurreche dalla stirpe, e schiatta reale discende, e sia stata originata”.
