Footnotes:
[145]: Micallef Yusupov connection from Maria, goes back to her great grand parents, Mro Giovanni Micallef, married 1683 Valletta to Princess Anna Maria Yusupov. Princess Anna Maria Yusupov was of Russian nobility tracing her origin to the Khans of the Nogai Horde of the Mongul dynasty as a descendant of Jenghis Khan, 1167-1227.
[150]; Nobile Bartolomeo IX Vassallo, (1740-1828), succeeded his very distant kinsman in Sicily as the 23rd Barone di Bauvso. Though as de jure as there was no acknowledgement via the King of Sicily or through the British Administration in Malta.
The Barony of Bauvso was created in 1296 at Palermo, Sicily to Nobile Vassallo de Vassallo to his male descendants in perpetruity. The title from Barone rose to Conte in 1368, then extinct, then recreated to the next of kin to Conte in 1468, then extinct. The Barony went to the next male descendant in Sicily and creation of Conte and Principe in 1490, then extinct in a generation. A recreation of Conte in 1575, then extinct the following year. The new kinsman succeeded and descendant in 1729 was created Conte, then dying and title of Conte became extinct. The Visconte de Bauvso was created in 1732 and 1745 becoming extinct in 1818. This is when all known legitimate descendants in Sicily died out. The next male heir was in Malta, whom succeeded as the 23rd Barone di Bauvso. Though no formal acknowledgement has ever been carried out. As any lands or monies no longer existed, so the title alone was not an encouragement to secure an inheritances of grandeur. Today, the title is in de jure style and initially split between two brothers, then the elder died without male descendants.
Note: The Vassallo’s in Malta are of various descendants, though the Vassallo di Bauvo’s have had illegitimate descendants and manumessos whom christianised with the surname of Vassallo.
[151]: Donna Evangelista Sayd, married 1779 Mosta to Bartolomeo Vassallo who succeeded his distant kinsman as the Sicilian Barony of Bauvso. Evangelista is the great grand-daughter of Don Simone Sayd, (1650-1710), 9th Principe de Sayd, 6th Principe di Bibino, etc and a descendants through his mother and grand mother to the Ottoman Claimant, Cem, who fled into exile after his brother took the throne in the 15th century. Cem’s descendants styled as the Christian alternative of the Imperia House of the Ottomans, though in the male line died out in the 17th century.
[159]: Maria Franches, wife of Giuseppe Micallef is a descendant of Giovanni Franches, who married 1734 Vittoriosa to Scolastica la Perna, who in turn grand parents were Gio Domenico La Perna and Cristina Lascaris, whom married 1653 Senglea. Cristina Lascaris was the daughter of Theodore I Lascaris, Signore di la Briga, a descendant of the Lascaris Counts of Vintimille et Tende and the Imperial House of Lascaris and the Nobile family of Ventimiglia of Italy. Many interesting imperial, royal and noble links comes from the ancestry.
