GRIMA. On January 14, Monica Lydia née Azzopardi Preziosi passed away suddenly, comforted by the rites of Holy Church after a long illness bravely borne. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her husband John, her sisters Rita, wife of Raymond Bonello, Antoinette, wife of George Debono, and Patricia Azzopardi Preziosi, her in-laws Mary, widow of Tony Mallia, Jos F. Grima, widower of Connie, Julia, widow of Jesper Juul Nielsen, and Christopher, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Tuesday, January 17, at 2.15pm for St George’s parish church, Qormi, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Resurrection Cemetery, Qormi. HENNESSY. On December 27, Contessa DOLORES, née Ellul, aged 91, passed away peacefully at her residence in East Molesey, Surrey, England. She leaves to mourn her loss her sons and their wives, Michael and Rosana, Richard and Angela, and Mark and Claire, her grandchildren, Dominic, Benjamin, Jennifer, Oliver, Rachel and Nicholas, her great-grandchildren Ayla and Josephine, her brother Joseph, her sister Daisy and brother-in-law Victor, nephews, nieces and other relatives. ANNOUNCEMENT OF MARRIAGE.

Attard and de Giovanni.

The marriage between Sharon, daughter of Kenneth and Jackie Attard of Swieqi, and Andrew, son of David and Johanna De Giovanni, also of Swieqi, took place at St Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Mdina.
Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Fr Savio Vella, SDB, with Fr Stefan Attard as concelebrant. The ceremony was witnessed by Sue Micallef and Carol Curmi. Kenny D’Ugo and Chris Bartolo Parnis carried out the duties of best men. Martina Guillaumier was maid of honour, while Alexia Curmi, Petra Galea Debono and Caroline Paris were bridesmaids. Gerald De Giovanni, Edward Attard, Matthew Curmi and Kurt Mallia were ushers. Sam De Giovanni was ring bearer, while Charlie Attard, Zoe Von Brockdorff and Anastasia Von Brockdorff were flower-girls.
A reception was later held at Villa Arrigo, Naxxar.

ZAMMIT GERMAN. On December 7, at Mater Dei Hospital, ELIZABETH, née Ullo, widow of Arthur, passed away peacefully, comforted by her family and the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter Sharon and her husband William Smithson, her son Karl and his wife Cornelia, her beloved grandchildren Oliver, Charlotte, Michael, Jamie, Andrew and Matthew, other relatives and friends. SANT CASSIA. On Thursday, September 22, at Mater Dei Hospital, after a long illness borne with Christian fortitude, MARIO, Ph.C., MD, residing at Wardija, St Paul’s Bay, aged 92, surrounded by his family and comforted by the rites of Holy Church, passed away peacefully to meet the Lord. He leaves to mourn his great loss, his loving, devoted and caring wife Melina née Boffa, his cherished children Paul and his wife Kristina, Suzanne and her husband Mario, Peter and his wife Marie Louise, and Joanna and her husband Joseph, his beloved grandchildren Simon, Mark, Maria, Chiara, Andrea and Christian, other relatives and friends, the Wardija community, and his carers Florante and Jennyvie Bartolome. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital today, Saturday at 1.30pm for the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mdina, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2pm (parking available at It-Tomba, Howard Gardens, Rabat, with access near the Roman Villa), followed by interment in the family grave at the Carmelite Crypt, Mdina. The family is grateful to Fr Guido Muscat OFM Conv who consistently gave spiritual support and solace to him and to his wife. The family also thanks the family doctor, and all consultants, doctors, nurses and staff at Mater Dei Hospital, for their professionalism, compassion and dedication. On August 19, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIO Francis Joseph Thomas, aged 73, son of Edeline Hornyold-Strickland, passed away with his family around him and at peace with himself, under the care of the Virgin Mary. He leaves to mourn his loss his sons Gregory, Matthew, Theo and Rupert, who each reflect a part of him, his humour, charisma, intelligence and love. He will be missed by his beloved grandchildren Natasha, Sadie, Jessica, Tabitha and Sydnie and all those who were close to him over his lifetime. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Monday, August 22, at 10.30am at Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema, where Mass will be celebrated by Fr Joe Cini, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. In honour of Mario’s wishes and his support of the organisation of Caritas, any donations to Caritas would be gratefully received in lieu of flowers. His sons humbly ask the Lord to grant him a place in heaven to allow him to watch over those he has left behind.

He leaves to mourn his loss his dear wife Lina, née Grech Cumbo, his children Myriam and Martin, Cecilia and Tonio, Edward and Rosalie, Lucienne and Robert, Ariane and Paul, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother Tonio and Rosemary, Gaby, widow of Joe and his sister Rose Martin, numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The Count of Beberrua

CARUANA GATT. On 2nd May, at his home, Thomas, passed away peacefully, aged 80, in the presences of his wife, Elisa and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. To be buried in Darwin Cemetry, near his parents and grandparents and other family members on 7th May 2016. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Thomas visited Malta in 1980 and visited his many relatives still living in Malta. His son, Geoffrey will succeed to the title of Count of Beberrua as styled being the eldest male descendant of the 1st Count of Beberrua, which was created in 1783 by the Grand Master of Malta.

GANADO

The former dean of the faculty of law, professor of civil law and president of the Chamber of Advocates, Joseph Ganado, has passed away. He was 90.
Prof. Ganado also served as chairman and member of the council of administration of the Strickland Foundation.
Prof. Ganado was appointed a member of the council by Mabel Strickland in 1979 when she established the Strickland Foundation for specific public benefit purposes. These include the promotion of democratic principles, human rights and journalism. He took over as chairman after the death of Guido de Marco. He stepped down in 2013.

DYSON. On March 5, in Melbourne, Australia, MARIKA, née Barbaro Sant, passed away peacefully, a few months short of her 70th birthday. She is deeply mourned by her husband John, her children Andrea and Monique and their families, her brother Tony and his children Fiona and her husband Thomas Lee, and Patrick, her numerous cousins, relatives and friends in Malta, UK and Australia, and her childhood friend Louise and her husband Norman Farrugia. A Mass for the repose of her soul will be said at Tal-Ibraġ parish church, on Wednesday March 16, at 5pm. The attendance of relatives and friends will be appreciated. ANNOUNCEMENT OF DEATH.

Chapelle dei Conti di Ciantar Paleologo.

 

CHAPELLE. On January 7, at Mater Dei Hospital, JEANNINE, née Dort, of Sliema, formerly of Paris, France, widow of Harry (Henry Herbert), aged 93, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Babette, Claire, Mark and his wife Cindy, her grandchildren Jennifer and her partner Christopher, Lavinia and her partner Emmanuel, Jean-Marc and Sophie, her great-grandchildren Max and Holly, her sisters Françoise, Maryse and her husband Alain, her brother Louis and his wife Paule, her many nephews and nieces in Malta, Australia and the US, numerous relatives and friends. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, tomorrow at 2pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Creche or Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated.
