PACE. On December 27, MYRIAM, née Depiro Gourgion, aged 91, widow of Antonio, born in Mdina and residing in Ta’ Xbiex, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss, her children, Sandra widow of Noel Radmilli, Mark and his wife Marianna, Marian and her husband Chris Galea, John and his wife Olga, her grandchildren Rachel, Paul, Karen, Nicky, Jenny, Alan, Stephanie Sacha, Nina and Sebastian, her six great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Mary Camilleri, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends and her dedicated carers Connie, Joji and Doris. Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated today at 2pm at St John of the Cross parish church Ta’ Xbiex. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Riemer Amato dei Baroni Gauci

RIEMER. On December 15, MARIELLA, née Amato-Gauci, passed away peacefully, in her 52nd year, with her devoted and loving husband Garry by her side. She will be sadly missed by her beloved sons Steven, Patrick and Matthew Montgomery, and her stepdaughters Olivia and Chloe Riemer. She was predeceased by her father, Philip. Deeply mourned by her mother Victoria Amato-Gauci, her mother-in-law Anna Riemer, her sisters Christianne Huber (Ron), Tanya O’Brien (Micheal) and Francesca Dauphinais (Jeffrey), her brothers Louis Amato-Gauci (David Hopley), Joseph Amato-Gauci (Tracy), Andrew Amato-Gauci (Julie) and Philip Amato-Gauci (Charlotte), nephews, nieces, in-laws, aunts, uncles, “It”, and many cousins. She will not be forgotten by many loyal friends and former colleagues. Seven years ago, Mariella responded to a terminal diagnosis with defiance and determination. Her signature love of life was unbowed in the face of great challenges, as she and Garry – her rock through thick and thin – set off to explore Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, New York State and Prince Edward Island. When it was determined that she was too ill to fly, they continued their travels by car. She seized every opportunity to plan big, boisterous family get-togethers. Her beautiful smile warmed the lives of many, and will be deeply missed. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, 28, Norfolk St., Guelph, today at 10am, followed by burial at Eden Mills Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Wellington, 795 Scottsdale Dr., Guelph, would be appreciated by the family. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

ZAMMIT LUPI. On December 10, at Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre, CONNIE, née Holland, widow of Joe, went to meet the Risen Lord, one week short of her 84th birthday, after a long illness borne with Christian fortitude and great courage, comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by all her loved ones. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her beloved children Anna and Pierre Ciantar, Peter and Antoinette, Claire and Edward DeBono, and Roberta and David Tortell; her most adored grandchildren Maria, Nicholas, Andrew, Matthew, Shaun, Daniel and Timothy; her sisters and brothers Helen Schembri, Anthony, Noel and Margaret, and Estelle and John Azzopardi Vella; her in-laws Alice Dingli, Arthur and Doretta Zammit Lupi, Louise Pace and Nicolette Zammit Lupi, many nephews and nieces, numerous relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9am for Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 9.30am, followed by interment at Naxxar cemetery. She leaves behind her loving children Nicholas and his wife Linda, Lawrence and his wife Elizabeth, Bunty and her husband Anton, her much loved grand­children and great-grandchild, her in-laws Paul and Lydia, Austin and Marlene and Marie, widow of Philip, nephews and nieces and many friends home and abroad. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband of 52 years, Andrew, sister Debrah, children Bruce (Jennifer), Kevin and Kathryn (John), grandchildren Madison, Ireland and Ben, brother-in-law Bill (Mae), sisters-in-law Heather and Claire, relatives and friends. She will also be mourned by her devoted long-time carer Rubylin and her son Arvinly. AMATO-GAUCI. On May 29, FREDERICK of Sliema, widower of Josephine, passed into eternal life, aged 98. Mourning him deeply are his children Ann and her husband Torio Gingell Littlejohn and Sandra and her husband Tim Jackson, his grandchildren Christopher and his wife Pippa, Steve and his wife Jennie, Matthew and his wife Sarah, Toby and his partner Ferne, Olly and his wife Tamsin and Alice and her partner Scott, his great-grandchildren Charlie and Michael, Roger and Ruby, Hannah and Sebastian, his devoted carer Flora, other relatives, and many friends. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 1 at 8.45am at the St Gregory the Great parish church, Sliema, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Maurice de Giorgio dei Baroni di San Giovanni

Maurice de Giorgio, Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti chairman, passes away
Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti's chairman, Maurice de Giorgio, has passed away, aged 91.
The foundation said Mr de Giorgio was its driving force. He served as its chairman since 1992.

During his tenure the foundation set up 11 exhibitions and was responsible for the transformation of Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum. It published more than 50 publications and 62 issues of the Treasures of Malta magazine.
"He was a highly respected extraordinary gentleman who inspired many, and whose vision helped reshape the Maltese cultural landscape."
Born in Milan and educated in Milan and Valletta, Mr de Giorgio served as librarian at the British Institute in Valletta. After the war, he went into business establishing Maurice de Giorgio Ltd, which later merged with Joinwell Ltd.
Maurice de Giorgio's numerous appointments include serving as honorary secretary and council member of the Federation of Malta Industries, executive council member of the Malta Trade Fair Corporation, founder director of the Malta Development Corporation and member of the Manoel Theatre management committee.
His dedication to the preservation and promotion of Malta's cultural heritage was recognised when he was invested with The Order of Merit in 1995.
The government and the Nationalist Party expressed condolences.

Antoine Cachia Caruana

Antoine Cachia Caruana, former headmaster of St Edward's College passed away today aged 87.
Mr Cachia Caruana was the father of Richard Cachia Carauna, Malta's permanent representative to the EU.
He served as headmaster from 1976 to 1989 and was considered as being a strict disciplinarian. He was involved in education for most of his life, mostly in teaching at St Edward's.
He was also honorary life president of the Old Edwardians Association.
Mr Cachia Caruana was made a Member of the National Order of Merit in December 2000.
The funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 9.30am at St Edward's.

BERNARD. Count PAUL EDGAR WILLIAM BERNARD, 5.5.1957-20.3.2015, passed peacefully away after a short illness, near Lisbon, Portugal, where he had lived and worked for many years as a translator, official guide, and European tour operator. He leaves to mourn his loss his brother Marc and his family, close family friends and ties in Portugal, the United Kingdom and Malta, and loyal friends worldwide who loved him dearly and for whom he was a source of joy and inspiration. He will be dearly missed and remembered with much affection. A memorial Mass for the repose of his soul will be held in Malta at a date to be announced. Lord grant him eternal rest.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Vincent, her children Michael, Anita, Charles, Martin, Bernadine and Peter and their families, her brother Baron Louie and his family, her cousins in Malta, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends in Malta. GRUNGO. On January 25, JOSEPHINE, née Cuschieri, of St Paul’s Bay, widow of John, aged 92, peacefully went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her children Mario and his wife Bernardette, Toniette and her husband Dr Raymond Zammit, Joseph and his wife Valerie residing in the UK, Jeanine and her husband Frank Sciberras, Jacqueline and her husband Ing. Albert Farrugia, her grand­children Martina, Andrea, Jean-Pierre, Anne-Marie, Gabrielle, Joanne, Noelle, Mark and Erika, their respective spouses and fiancés, her great-grandchildren Sebastian, Benjamin, Zack and Luigi, her brother Antoine and his wife Josephine, her sisters Paulette, Juliette, Eileen and Carmele, Toniette and Lyla of Australia, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortege leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8am for Our Lady of Sorrows parish church in St Paul’s Bay, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9am, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to charitable institutions and Lisa Maria Foundation will be greatly appreciated. The family wish to thank all the staff at Mater Dei Hospital and St Peter’s Home, Lija for their dedication and care. Kindly remember her in your prayers. The family regret that they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
